So, ya want a little peek at what I get to do every single day? Here are a few pictures from a cocktail reception last week. Held in the President's Suite in Nininger Hall on the Bridgewater College Campus, the Business Community Reception gave local businesses a chance to network and socialize with other businesses and some of the BC Faculty & Staff.
In my opinion, receptions always scream cocktail tables. I'm a big fan of them. It creates great movement and flow throughout the room, and still allows for guests to place their appetizers and drinks on a surface, while engaging in conversation with one another. Please keep in mind of a few things before going 100% hightop table. What are the ages of your guests? If they are older and may have mobility issues, cocktail tables are not ideal. Also, how long is the reception? If any longer than one hour, you may need an alternative. Try mixing cocktail tables with 48" or 60" round tables and chairs, depending on the size of the room. This gives your guests options of standing or sitting at a table, and it works for all ages and durations. Seating can also be added around the perimeter of the room, if necessary.
With it being set for just a few days before Valentine's Day, I wanted to go in the exact opposite direction when it came to the decorations. My initial thought was to go for a Winter theme. That's where the table linens came into play. I am absolutely in love with them. I wanted to stay away from any kind of pastel or "iced/frosted" color. Baby blue is great, but I wanted something bold and rich in hue. The linens are actually navy blue, but in some photos, they look royal blue, which I love.
The flowers are to die for. Now, I'm not very well versed in the floral department, so I couldn't tell you much about them, besides this: THEY'RE GORGEOUS, RIGHT? Although I initially wanted a Winter theme, (hence the white), this arrangement was perfect. I think we're all still a little depressed that Puxatawny Phil saw his shadow; and with the multiple inches of snow currently outside my window, it may be safe to say that Winter is far from over. Why be even more of a Debbie Downer? This arrangement creates a wonderful cross between Winter and Spring. A little teaser of the warmer months to come never hurt anyone.
When thinking of arrangements, make sure that you keep in mind the size of the room and the size of the surfaces. Have you ever been seated at a table where the centerpiece was so tall you couldn't see the person across from you? Talk about awkward. Avoid that by going with short, simple arrangements.
