NFL Draft 2014 Wrap-Up: Fashion Edition

This past Thursday evening, Radio City Music Hall was filled with superstars; college athletes who were about to have all of their dreams come true by being selected in the 2014 NFL Draft.  I watch this every single year for two reasons… 1) I am a huge football fan and 2) I love to see a man in a nice suit.  What a perfect combination!  Although the draft goes on for several days, I decided to highlight my favorite fashions of those drafted in the top 10.

Honorable Mention
With the #6 pick, the Atlanta Falcons select
JAKE MATTHEWS
of Texas A&M

As the 7th member of his family to be drafted into the NFL, Matthews looked sharp in a timeless gray 3-piece suit.  Adding the light gray tie kept it classic, and the printed pocket square gave it a little bit of pop.  The cousin of Green Bay Packers star, Clay Matthews, is sure to be right at home in Atlanta, as he also rocked cowboy boots.

Third Place
With the #7 pick, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers select
MIKE EVANS
of Texas A&M

Unlike his fellow Aggie, Jake Matthews, this wide receiver went for a more untraditional approach.  Mike Evans sported a black pinstriped suit with a black and red checkered shirt underneath.  Although I'm not a huge fan of the printed tie, it was a huge fashion risk, and I have to give him his props for that.

Second Place
With the #8 pick, the Cleveland Browns select

JUSTIN GILBERT
of Oklahoma State

The former OSU Cowboy kept it simple.  The combination of gray suit and white shirt are classic staples that look great with the plaid tie.  The plain red pocket square was a perfect finishing touch.  I'll be sure to look out for more of Gilbert's style as he braves the Cleveland cold.

First Place
With the #3 pick, the Jacksonville Jaguars select
BLAKE BORTLES
of the University of Central Florida

Although he was an unexpected pick as number three, Bortles scored a touchdown when he chose this look.  His navy pinstriped suit, white shirt, and navy & white polka dot tie SCREAM classy, sophisticated, and distinguished.  Most of the time, less is more, and here, it is no exception.  If he keeps this up, this quarterback is sure to stay on my fashion radar.

And there ya have it, folks...
BUT WAIT. Aren't we forgetting someone?
JOHNNY MANZIEL.

Although the cutie wasn't drafted within the top 10, he definitely deserves some applause.  Sitting without a jacket for most of the first round, Manziel looked suave with gray shirt and tie.  As his name was called, a navy jacket tied it all together, making "Johnny Football" something to talk about.  But when is he not?  He's been making headlines and gracing Instagram pages of rapper Drake and NBA star LeBron James.  He may have been drafted #22, but I think we're all anxious to see what the Quarterback will be bringing to a struggling Browns team.

Okay, so now I'm done.  I couldn't end a post about football players without adding in something about Manziel.  Did I just become a Cleveland fan?  YIKES.

As always, Happy Shopping!
And bring on football season!

#OOTD: Cinco De Mayo

Cinco de... Maxi?

While everyone else had margaritas and queso on the brain today (well let's be honest, I definitely had them on the brain, I just chose to avoid it #selfcontrol), I had maxi dresses on my mind.  I was in NO MOOD to wear pants today, and this is when a maxi comes in handy.  I got this black, navy, and white floral print dress from Old Navy for just under $40.  Because it's strapless, I paired it with a simple black cardi for a more professional look.

Seriously the easiest way to look work ready.  And comfortable, too!  As much as I love clothes, I can't stand to be uncomfortable, and with a maxi dress, I never feel that way.

Happy Shopping and Happy Cinco de Mayo - get yourself some tequila!

Lex

Red, White, & Cobalt

If anyone knows me at all, they know that I absolutely love wearing white.  So crisp and classic; it brings any outfit to a higher caliber.  I bought this white blazer from Express on clearance at the end of the summer last year.  Because I don't believe in wearing white after Labor Day (yes, I still believe in some rules of fashion), I was forced to save this piece until now.

Blazers can bring professionalism to any outfit.  You can dress them up, dress them down; put them on with pants, shorts, dresses; literally ANYTHING; and you'll always look fierce.  While wearing blazers, I like to keep things simple for the most part.  So, I paired it with a basic white v-neck (one of my staple pieces from one of my prior entries: Spring & Summer '14 Must-Haves).

As I always like to say, a little POC goes a long way.  These bright cobalt jeggings are a great contrast to the white blazer.  Plus, I love to wear bigger items on the top half of my body, and then skinnier items on the bottom.

I know that pastel nail colors are a huge hit this season, but they always look terrible with my skin complexion.  In my opinion, you can never go wrong with a classic red.
